The Service of Evensong on the 13th Sunday will start at 6pm and not at the usual time of 6.30pm. This is to allow people to attend a concert being held at St Johns Batheaston on the same evening. For more details of the concert please contact John Lees.

The search for more space in St. Swithun’s!

Last Sunday we told the church family about how the PCC is trying to find a way of creating a much-needed new room for our children’s groups and additional storage space. We spoke of two possible projects which are under consideration at the moment: putting a mezzanine floor across the length of the south aisle or glazing in the Lady Chapel and creating cupboard space at the back of the north aisle. In addition to this, and linked to either scheme, we would like to install a new lavatory with disabled access. This would require changes to the kitchen facilities as well.

No decisions have been taken and before we do so we intend to hold full consultations with the whole church family in the autumn.

We thought you would like to know what is happening at the moment.

The Fabric Committee and the Standing Committee are carrying out a comparison of the two possible schemes by considering each against the same set of criteria. These criteria are: the cost; the size of room(s) created; the maximum number of people that could be accommodated; the range of uses to which the new space could be put; the ability to meet the needs of all the existing activities of the church; the amount of storage space provided; the impact on the integrity of the church building; the impact on the Parish Mission we hope to hold at Easter 2010; the duration of the project (this to include consideration of: the time needed for consultation with the church, the diocese and the parish; the time needed to raise the finance; the time to complete the building work); the impact on the church’s activities during construction.

At the open meeting of the church family which we hope to hold in the autumn the results of this comparative exercise will be fully communicated to help us in our discussions. If you think of any other criteria that should be considered in this exercise, please speak to Cas Gillard or either of the church wardens. Please continue to pray for the PCC and for the Fabric and Standing Committees. Thank you.

Brunel Manor-Church Family Weekend 26th—28th June 2009

It has been just over a year since we had our church family week end away. I am sure all who went will confirm what a wonderful time of fellowship and teaching it was. Brunel Manor is a beautiful house set in its own grounds with its own swimming pool and near by beach, not to mention the delicious food. We have booked a similar week-end away next year and already we need to advise Brunel of the numbers of people we are expecting.

Please sign the sheet by the door ASAP if you would like to come
